{September 21, 2009}   I got a new toy!

I got a netbook! It’s Pink!!!

I’ve had laptops before.  I tend to lean toward HP when I am purchasing any computer, so I’ve had multiple hp full size laptops and enjoyed them. After a not so great experience about a year ago with hp though, I’ve been going laptopless. I sort of enjoyed it. I mean, I was always on my more powerful desktop, with a bigger screen, but recently being tied down to my desk anytime I wanted to be on the computer really started to get on my nerves. I decided I wanted a laptop. Something that would be small and light, that I could use for internet, email, and work. At first I started looking at eeepc’s  because they are certainly small. Then for awhile I thought maybe I could get one of the higher spec’d Ibook G4’s! Then I could have OSX! That was exciting until I realized how hard it is to find one in nice condition.  Then I learned about hacintosh (hackintosh? I’ve seen it spelled both ways) and that some netbooks are really easy to put OSX on! Which got me looking at Dell mini 9’s because it seems to be one of the easiest. Dell mini 9’s weren’t quite what I was looking for though, so I ended up going for the Dell mini 10v which seems to only be slightly harder to install OSX onto. I ordered it from Dell on the 16th and it arrived on the 18th making me a very surprised and very happy girl! (It wasn’t supposed to get here until the 23rd and tracking never updated)

I still haven’t named it, but here it is:

So it’s really awesome. I like it a lot. It’s currently running XP which doesn’t really make me happy, so I may switch to ubuntu in the meantime until I buy a retail copy of leopard.

Also, part of my purchase ($5?) went to help find a cure for breast cancer.

I am of course, pro-boobs.

Last month, I ordered a super cool shell from skin it, remember?

Well, I decided that since skinit has never made with the badness before, I could totally try again. I mean, it can’t be terrible twice, right? Right! So I went on the shell maker thing again and made this:

Now it’s not the prettiest, but it’s very…me! And personally, I like me. So I had it printed and was excited because I figured that they really couldn’t mess this one up! It came today and I was excited and a bit nervous to open it, here it is:

It’s still cute, but why is it purple? ugh. Oh well. I guess skinit is just bad at pink? I don’t think I’m going to try this again though.

Happy Birthday to me!

I figured I might as well say it to myself. You know…just in case.

{August 31, 2009}   I have button hate!

Now, I don’t normally bag on vista, but after having it for a while, I’ve noticed one thing I really really hate, and it is this button. I don’t really remember what the middle button did in XP, but I know it wasn’t this. Sometimes I am browsing through my photos, maybe deleting some, or looking for something specific. This probably means I’m using the forward button and maybe sometimes even the back button. Sometimes however, I accidently hit this dumb middle button. You know what this does? First, it freezes my whole computer for roughly 3 seconds. Then, my screen goes black. Then, It scrolls through every picture in that folder slowly. And is difficult to exit. Stupid slideshow button. Go away. No one likes you.

Let me preface this by saying that I know this isn’t really T-mobile’s fault, I just used the title for the alliteration.

Recently I got a sidekick shell from T-mobile through skinit. Since I have a Sidekick 2008, I can have replacement shells not just skins or snap on rubber things. Anyway, the shells are custom and printable. Now, I’ve gotten things from skinit before and been perfectly content. This time however, it was a complete disaster.

My friend John made me this really awesome picture as a desktop awhile ago. I love this picture, and I thought to myself, “how cool would it be to have a shell for my phone with this picture on it!” “Really Cool,” I answered. So I set about making a shell using skinit’s on site custom shell maker.

This is the picture in question, of course it was larger, much higher quality, and without silly text over it.

It’s a lovely picture, and I really do enjoy it oh so much. So I was excited to get the shell made. I went through everything and got it all made and this is the preview of what the shell would look like as shown to me as a confirmation upon checking out:

“I love it,” I say as I admire my handiwork. I give myself a big pat on the back and congratulate myself on my genius idea and place the order. I go about my merry way for about 3 weeks before I start to get really antsy and wonder where my wonderful sidekick shell is. Soon after that it shows up at my door. I’m excited, so ridiculously excited.

Until I open the package. What could possibly be wrong? This:

It is purple. Did anyone else notice? It’s purple? How did the picture that I made it out of, which turned into my lovely preview picture, get printed as that? Let me assure you, the coloring in that picture is correct. How does this happen? I’m so seriously upset over this. Sadly the paper I got with it amd the T-mobile/skinit sidekick shells site says that they don’t do refunds or exchanges for their custom shells, so I doubt that contacting them will do any good, but I will try. It just seems like a really terrible mistake to be made.

Okay, so I started playing world of warcraft. Yeah. I was really bored and Reed (Reflexman08) talked me into giving it a try. I started a 10 day trial, and it was enjoyable.

Now that the 10 day trial is over though, I have decided not to continue it, not that it was ever really a question. I just can’t make myself spend $15 dollars a month on a game. I can justify the $8ish bucks a month for xbox live by the fact that I can play soo many games, but I justify a monthly fee of 15 dollars for one game, no matter how enjoyable it is.

{July 6, 2009}   4th of july 2009

Videos from 4th of july!

I also have some pretty cool pictures up on my facebook.

I had quite a bit of fun watching the fireworks. Drew took the pictures, I gotten eaten by bugs. Yeah, lotsa fun. right.

Favicons. FAVICONS.

Favicons are awesome, okay? Yeah. Awesome. They are pretty, and small and make things look super cool.

Now, I use firefox. It’s cool, and it works better than IE. I also use the built in bookmarks toolbar which is really sweet looking.

Until you see the websites without Favicons. Then, it is just sad. Favicons, URLicons, Webicons, whatever you want to call them, please use them! The prettiness of my bookmarks toolbar depends upon it. Also, you see how there aren’t any names beside them? Granted if I roll over them it will show a name (Thanks to the Smart Bookmarks Bar Add-on!), but how am I supposed to know what your website is without a pretty little icon to show me? hmmm? Seriously, if you don’t have a favicon, you should.
